Continued support for older PHP versions

We continue to offer support for older versions of PHP such as 7.4 after the end of November, although many colleagues in the industry are losing it.

Many of our colleagues in the industry are turning off support for PHP 7.4 at the end of November, when that version officially reaches End of Life. Those of you who haven’t upgraded your sites that don’t currently support higher versions of PHP are therefore in for a real treat.

The PHP programming language is used for almost all applications on our hosting accounts. Because there are so many different versions of PHP, upgrading can mean that your website completely crashes; especially if you built the site yourself or if it hasn’t been upgraded in a while.

We always recommend that you keep your application up to date and update to the latest version of PHP as soon as you can. But maybe you’re limited by the fact that your application doesn’t support the latest version yet?

Security updates even for old PHP versions

On our servers we use the CloudLinux operating system. They continue to release security updates even for old PHP versions, even though the PHP community itself does not do so.

So if you have an older website and have to use PHP 5.2 – 7.4, you will still be protected with us.

Choose when to upgrade

Of course, we recommend that you upgrade to the latest stable version of PHP, because in addition to better security, you’ll also get much better performance. But we don’t force you to upgrade, you choose when you’re ready to change PHP version.

Via our control panel you can easily change PHP version yourself by clicking on Select PHP Version. If you need help, you can read more in our help guide.

We offer all PHP versions from 5.2 all the way up to 8.1 (and soon 8.2 when it is released in a few weeks).

If your website stops working as a result of the change, you can just as easily switch back to an earlier PHP version and resolve the issues at your leisure.
