MariaDB soon on all servers

This autumn we will migrate our servers to MariaDB. This will give you better performance and security.

This autumn we will start migrating all our hosting servers and managed servers to MariaDB instead of MySQL. The upgrade will bring you many benefits.

MariaDB is a fork of MySQL that was created in 2009 because the original developers of MySQL were unhappy with the direction of the project. MariaDB is used by many. Including Google, Wikipedia and WordPress.

Basically, you won’t notice the change. Your applications will work just like before. There are no compatibility issues. So you don’t have to worry about anything stopping working.

On the contrary, you will certainly notice some of the improvements. Among other things, the performance of MariaDB is better and there are more opportunities to optimize it further. There are also better security measures.

We will be upgrading our servers on an ongoing basis throughout the autumn. During the update, your server will have a few minutes of downtime. You can find the current status and information about when your particular server will be upgraded on our status page.
