- Protects your website without you having to lift a finger
- Plugin vulnerabilities are the main cause of hacked websites
- Good protection is no substitute for updates
We’re excited to announce that we’re launching a new security service for the world’s most widely used CMS. With WP Guardian, you don’t have to worry about security holes being exploited and gaining backdoor access to your website – they’re stopped before you even have time to worry.
WP Guardian protects your website – without you having to lift a finger
– It’s no secret that we like WordPress and have done so for a long time. That’s why it’s extra fun every time we can sharpen our offering on that front, says David Strand, Technical Manager at Oderland.
WP Guardian is an add-on to your hosting solution that gives your website a new level of security. Thanks to virtual patching and Patchstack’s effective rapid mitigation, intrusions are stopped before they can happen.
– Security work in WordPress is often manual and time-consuming, but WP Guardian works preventively and automates parts of that work. It saves time, requires less manual handling, and reduces the risk of intrusion, David continues.
The service is a plugin that continuously scans your WordPress core, your other plugins, and your theme in the background and plugs known security holes before they can be exploited.
No code changes are required. With WP Guardian, you get protection that complements the strong protection included in all our web hosting packages.
Please note that WP Guardian does not replace regular updates and optimizations, which are still very important for the security of your website.
Plugin vulnerabilities are the main reason websites are affected by data breaches
Most breaches do not occur through advanced, targeted attacks but through known vulnerabilities in plugins. Nearly 96% of all data breaches can be traced back to vulnerable plugins.
– Security is basically all about risk reduction. Updates remain the most important protection, but we know that there’s a gap between theory and practice. Our role is to reduce the consequences when that gap occurs. Offering an additional layer of protection is a natural responsibility for us as a hosting provider, says Martin Stenröse, Operations & Security Manager at Oderland.
As soon as a vulnerability becomes public, automated bots start scanning the web for unpatched websites. This often takes a matter of hours, and in reality, it is rare for anyone to be ready to update every plugin the second a security fix is released.
Enter virtual patching.
Virtual patching means that a vulnerability is blocked without updating the code, plugin, or theme itself.
Instead of relying on each individual add-on being updated in time, the attack is blocked at the application level. The vulnerability may remain in the code, but it cannot be exploited.
The result is that the website remains protected even when you have not had time or are unable to update.
…but good protection is no substitute for updates
No matter how many security systems you have, they are no substitute for taking care of your website. As Martin put it: Updates are and remain the most important protection.
In this blog post, we list more reasons why you should always update your WordPress to the latest version. And if you don’t want to or can’t do it yourself, we offer a service to do it for you.
